This project will involve a substantial extension to the existing hospital, construction of a new three storey Imaging Centre facility at the entrance to the site and a three storey Theatre Block in the heart of the campus, including basement and roof top plant space. The proposed Theatres building negotiates a sloping site that rises almost 3m across its footprint and subsequently, the building’s form arises from this topography; envisioned as a series of horizontal slabs, separated by unbroken horizontal strips windows, set back from the face of the slabs to articulate the horizontality of the structure. The reimagining of the hospital entrance and the proposed construction of the Imaging Centre will create a beacon at the gateway into the Sligo town from the south.
